TEENAGE CANCER TRUST – TUESDAY 26TH JUNE AT 9.30PM BBC 2
STOP! before you start moaning about how hot it is out there?https://www.teenagecancertrust.org/
Horizon Documentary showing on BBC2 this Tuesday at 9.30pm https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b8cdgq
Please give some thought this week to the Horizon Documentary giving us, as the viewer, what it is like to be a teenager with cancer? This programme presents 11 individual stories on how these amazing young people cope with their illnesses, showing us, with the help of others, the best way they can find in getting through each day with their specific type of cancer. It is an opportunity to give viewers an insight to see how the money, that has been kindly donated and raised, goes on desperately needed hospital ward facilities, specialised nursing, social work support that is tailored to each individual needs and looking at what the future will bring in the development of new medicines and drugs necessary.

‘GUMMY’ BEAR ARRIVES AT HIS NEW HOME TO A SURPRISE TEDDY BEAR’S PICNIC
It was all a very exciting day on Wednesday for ‘Gummy’, he finally arrived at his new home at the Ronald McDonald House Charity in Birmingham.
What a warm welcome he received from all of the children with beaming smiles and outstretched arms, he certainly was made a fuss of, children giving him lots of kisses, cuddles and taking photos….
….but it never stopped there, they even greeted him with his very own ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’, celebrating with sandwiches, pop, games and special packets of jelly ‘teddy bear’ sweeties, given out to all who attended.
The children also ran a competition wanting to give ‘Gummy’ a new name …
finally deciding on the name ‘Bob’, ‘Bob’ The Bear’ … that name is familiar for some reason?
Managing Director ‘Bob’ Strong was there to present the bear to the Ronald McDonald’s House Charity Birmingham.
A very big ‘Thank You’ to all the staff, especially Libby Aston, Natalie Wood and to all the poorly children at Ronald McDonald’s House Charity Birmingham who took the time out of their day making ‘Gummy’s’, sorry ‘Bob’s’ arrival day so special, we all know he will love living there.

MOVIES TO LOOK OUT FOR 2018
Over the Easter Holiday we were pleased to be able to have some time to catch up, to enjoy a couple of movies and to think about others who are less fortunate than ourselves.
The first film was ♥ ‘Wonder’ ♥ shown on Netflix. This brave little boy named ‘Auggie’ who has a very rare medical facial deformity called Franceschetti-Klein syndrome also known as a Mandibulofacial dysostosis (MFDM) or Treacher Collins Syndrome, shows what he has to confront with on a daily basis once he starts middle schooling, until then his mother had been teaching him from home. The film shows what bullying ‘Auggie’ has to deal with as well as how his condition touches onto everyone’s lives around him and how they too have to deal with guilt and prejudices.
The film has been adapted from the novel by R J Palacio ‘Wonder’ which is still available from major book shops.
The second film, shown on BBC2, was the award-winning short film ♥ ‘The Silent Child’ ♥ at this year’s 90th Academy Awards, the film runs for approximately 20 minutes. It looks into the life of a four-year-old girl called ‘Libby’ who is profoundly deaf and builds up a friendship with her tutor who has taught her how to use sign language, which gives Libby the companionship she craves for. Her parents, however, would prefer ‘Libby’ to lip read. The six-year-old actress who plays the part of Libby is Maisie Sly, which was her first time ever to act or appear in a movie.
Basic sign language? there are plenty of examples on the British Sign Language website on how to do it, you can print them off too.
